lecture: Backup-as-a-service with data deduplication technique on the source

Event_large

Backup process which utilizes source data deduplication techniques improves storage utilization and reduces network data transfers.
Unique chunks of data, or byte patterns, identified during the process of analysis, are transferred as a backup data over the data network.
Since deduplication occurs close to where data is created, it is often referred to as a "source deduplication".
Effectiveness of the technique is measured with deduplication ratio often referred as dedup factor. Better byte pattern match leads to a greater dedup factor (the match frequency of the byte pattern match is dependent on the chunk size). Also the greater dedup factor leads to a smaller amount of data sent over the data network, thus reducing the time of a backup process.
Deduplication technique on the source, as a part of the backup service, ensures a clean and consistent backup.
Consistent backups, used during recovery process of the lost or corrupted data, are reducing recovery time (RTO) and point objectives (RPO). With consistent backup and effective restore process it is convenient to restore objectives in state of data that are usable for business application.
